This is the newest member of our family. His name is Ripley and we adopted him from the shelter.  Our animal shelter brings their animal

to our mall  to see if they can get people to adopt their  animals

that have been brought in.   I have gone to these many a time and never adopted any.  For some reason this time was  different.

I saw Ripley and thought  he looked like a good dog, but wasn't

sure that I wanted to adopt a dog.

We have a cat and a ferret and a hamster at home and wasn't sure that they would like for us to bring a dog home.  Ripley is about eight years old and  seemed to be a good boy but still wasn't sure that I wanted to adopt him.

We talked to the  lady that brought these animals in  and she said that the older animals don't  seem to get adopted as people want puppies.

We told her our concerns about our other animals at home and she

said that they would be there until 4:00 PM.  So we left and

I started to cry, something  was telling me that we  had to go back

and get him and take him home.

We went back and told the lady that we would adopt Ripley to put an hold  on him as we wanted to go to K-Mart and get what we need

to bring him home.

He is a lab-beagle mix.   A bigger dog than what I wanted, but just look at that face of his and you have to fall  in love with him...........I sure did.

I am  amazed at how well he has adjusted to his new home. He don't like our cat or ferret. Gizmo our ferret love to jump around Ripley and he don't  like it. What Ripley will do is get up and move.   It is so funny to watch the two of them.   Bailey our cat stay in the basement. She doesn't like being up here because of Ripley, but is starting to come up more and more. We have had Ripley for a week now and he is still doing good. One thing that I have notice is that when we have company he will got to the bathroom in the house and not ask to go out. I don't know why he does that.

This is Ripley and our grandson Ashton. I was worried that they wouldn't get along, but they get along just fine.  I wasn't worried about Ashton as much as I was Ripley. Being an older dog coming into a new home I didn't know if he would like kids. As Ashton is 6 years old. My grandson and his mom live here so you now have a house full. Ripley, Ashton and I go out in the morning to get Ashton on the bus.  Ripley love to see Ashton off. Then when it's time for Ashton to come home I take Ripley out with me and we wait for Ashton to come home, and when Ripley seen the bus he knows that Ashton will be getting off and boy does his tail start wagging. He is so happy to see him. As each day goes by it seems that Bailey spends more time upstairs with us.  She still hisses, but it is getting better.  Ripley will not come  in the house if Bailey is at the door when we come in.  And Ripley is getting along better with Gizmo.  Gizmo has no fear of anything no matter how he is treated.................lol

I think that we need to think about adopting more of the older animals.

As they need just as much love as a puppy.

Please keep this in mind when you plan on adopting a pet.
